Airbnb shut down domestic business in China

Dear Nate, Brian, Joe, Danni, HAB & everyone of our community ,

This is Ningyi from China. I am a member of HAB2020.

Today I’m here to write this letter, not just for myself, but also for the 63 core-valued community leaders and more than 100,000 active community members in China.

We do understand that it is such a difficult decision to make. The business part is not something that we hosts can control.

But we ARE part of Airbnb community. We embrace this community because of its value, which makes us believe that somewhere in this world we have friends with shared values, that we can belong anywhere.

NOW WE FEEL HOMELESS.

Therefore we humbly ask you:

- to keep listing links, reviews and host profile pages for those hosts who voluntarily stand with Airbnb in mainland China.

The listing pages/reviews are loaded with lovely memories between our hosts and guests, and it would hurt so much to see it gone.

- to save the Airbnb China Community through multiple ways.

We still want to stay connected with everyone until Chinese market reopens (if possible). We have two pieces of advice at present, but we will discuss more details with the community in the following days.

1. We don’t want people think that Airbnb China community is dismissed. We want a public announcement to tell the world and also China guest and host communities that Airbnb China community will be here.

2. We still want to connect with the Airbnb global community, and we believe this can be achieved by introducing a supervisor from the global community who can guide us and support funding for our upcoming online and offline activities.

Yes I cannot stop crying while writing this.

Like one of our community member Lily says,

The era of openness, inclusiveness and hope is over. At this moment, it seems like I am standing at the gate of the amusement park closing by the evening.

The gate keeper asks if I had a good time today.

- Yes. I’m super happy. BUT can we still meet you again tomorrow?

I still remember when Brian said, Airbnb's mission is to create a world where anyone can belong anywhere. And without China, Airbnb cannot belong anywhere.

Stay Connected.

BRs

Ningyi

Considering the PR reasons, we only collect the signatures of our community leaders in China .

But our hosts and guests,ANYONE who know about this , they feel the same way . They are willing to stand with our community .
